Solicitors at Deighton Pierce Glynn, acting on behalf of an asylum-seeking woman, have brought a claim against the Home Office for negligence, for the failure to discharge the duty of care owed, which led to personal injury, psychiatric damage, distress and anxiety. After fleeing Angola, the woman sought asylum in the UK and was housed in Brigstock House asylum support accommodation in the London borough of Croydon. When she was 35 weeks pregnant, she experienced severe pain and bleeding. She asked staff to call her an ambulance, but she claims they refused, leaving her in the reception area for over three hours. Another resident called the ambulance. She was then taken to Croydon Hospital where she was told her baby had died.

She will also be making a claim under the Equality Act 2010 for the discrimination she experienced and the breach of her human rights.
