Women’s charity falls victim to funding cuts
Eaves, a London-based charity supporting women victims of violence, has been forced to close due to funding difficulties.
Chair of Eaves Dr Louisa Cox said falling grant income and rising rents meant it was no longer able to cover its core costs. She added that there is much evidence to suggest ‘women are bearing the brunt’ of the government funding cuts. She also hit out at what she labelled ‘abysmal commissioning’, arguing that public bodies buying services ‘either do not know or do not care what they should be looking for or how to assess a bid other than by lowest unit cost with no regard to quality’. The charity ran a number of services, including the Poppy Project helping women victims of trafficking.
