Just Fair, Amnesty International UK, Human Rights Watch, René Cassin and Liberty have joined the Guarantee our Essentials campaign, coordinated by the Trussell Trust and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), to ensure that the UK’s human rights obligations are met. The campaign calls on the government to guarantee in law a level of support from universal credit covering the basic requirements, such as food and bills, to allow people to live with dignity. Research published by the Trussell Trust and JRF in February 2023 indicated that this amounts to at least £120 a week for a single adult and £200 a week for couples. Currently, single adults aged 25 or over receive £85 a week (£67 a week for those under 25) and couples 25 or over receive £134 a week (£106 for those under 25).
