Pro bono lifeline for migrant children
City law firms Allen & Overy and DLA Piper have agreed to assist the charity Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) in citizenship cases for children. Under the supervision of a solicitor at CCLC, lawyers from the firms will provide full casework services to children and their families who wish to apply for citizenship.
Legal aid had been available for complex citizenship cases, but this was cut by LASPO. According to CCLC, the project will prioritise making applications for children over 10, who were born in the UK to foreign born parents.
LAG highlighted the plight of people unable to prove their immigration status in the Chasing Status report, published last year.
